Bobby Lee (Bruce Dern) comienza a sentirse atrapado, ya que su mujer (Ann-Margret) ha perdido parte de su atractivo y sus amigos y familia le tratan como el cuarentón que pronto va a ser. Después de la muerte de su padre, Bobby es incapaz de soportarlo y se fuga con una animadora de Dallas (Deborah Wakeham) en un viaje a la ciudad.
